How To Welcome Trump Supporters Into Your Circles

By Andrew Schmidt

Every American was supporting one side between Trump and Hilary. The heated debates have not died down despite an end to campaigns. This makes it difficult to Welcome Trump Supporters or those of Hilary into conversations. How then do you deal with people of diverse political views without hurting them or being offensive? Here are a few tips.

Avoid looking at people as similar in all aspects. Though people hold similar opinion, there are differences if you care to look out for them. Ramping them into a group of idiots is unfair and will cause you to fail to see the good in other people. Different opinions are not a reason for you to lose respect for other people. When you take such an angle, the discussion quickly degenerates.

Turn on the listening button instead of answering. When talk becomes intense, you are likely to degenerate into altercations. When you listen, the person talking will cool his tempers and even allow you to answer without flaring tempers. This is also the best way to get the point he is trying to make without being biased. The fact that you were not supporting him causes you to assume a lot of sense that he represented.

Avoid being condescending towards such people during debates of any form of engagement. This calls for incredible respect whenever you will be expressing your views. If the person feels like the views lack respect, there is a possibility of anger and a negative response. In fact, the debate will turn into a full blown war. Respect the divergence of opinion without the fear of losing the argument.

Avoid succumbing to guilt. It is very easy to feel like they are right and you are wrong. You are only responsible for your happiness and not that of other people. Do not even allow a supporter to bring you down. Their views should remain personal and not lorded on every other person they come across. Fight for your space and your peace and do not give in to unnecessary pressure of insults.

Be appreciative of the good things associated with Trump. They include a growing international image and a better performing economy. This is a reality that is usually blocked by opposing political positions. Even as you hold on to your opinion, you should not lose sight of the fact that the opposing side has a valid point and good things to offer. Do not allow the fear of losing to overcrowd your judgment.

Gather facts for and against your position. You will lose the debate if you depend on erroneous facts or quote the wrong information. You must also understand the weaknesses of your opponent if you are to win the debate. Such information helps you to counter what your opponent is saying and stand on solid factual ground. This is the only way to win arguments.

Politics and alignments change. Trump held a different view of republicans but today rules as a republican. Do not be a hardliner and unaccommodating of diverse opinions. You will be the loser since the circle of your friends shrinks. Appreciate that there will always be diversity in opinion and admit such people in your circles.
